Sunny Leone has walked through life in the
spotlight with her head held high and a devil-may-care attitude.
A recent example of this is when she shut
down a journalist for asking her sexist questions. The beauty of it is that she
did not actually ask him to shut up but dealt with his insensitive questions
with the utmost grace.
Famous names in Bollywood tweeted their
support, praise and congratulations to Sunny. One of the country’s biggest
stars, Aamir Khan tweeted to her saying:
This was in response to the interviewer
asking Sunny if Aamir would ever be willing to work with her.
It’s a great show of support on Aamir’s
part but how true are his words? Will Sunny ever fit into the perfectionist’s
perfect plans?
Sunny herself has said that even after 4 years in the industry, she still feels like the elephant in the room. She might be
seen in the company of the most famous names in the industry but it’s sad that
she still feels like an outsider.
If you take a look at Sunny’s career in
Bollywood – right from Jism 2 to Mastizaade – she has been the star attraction.
Her name draws crowds to the ticket windows. It’s noteworthy that this has been
the case right from the start of her Bollywood career whereas top heroines have
only been able to achieve this a few years after their debut.
Bollywood is all about image and Sunny
seems to be happy in her own carefully crafted one. All her movies and songs have
an element of titillation. Now the question is that when that’s your USP, will
prudish Bollywood ever see you as more than that?
To Sunny’s credit, she’s more than just an
actor. She’s an entertainer. She’s a shrewd businesswoman who, along with her
loving husband Daniel Weber, has created a brand that will never be forgotten.
But will it ever be wholly accepted by Bollywood?
